100th day of school

I cannot believe we have finished 100 days of homeschool! It felt like such a huge accomplishment! We celebrated our 100th day with some fun activities. We started our morning with some excersise where each of us came up with an excercise and we did it 10 times. We took turns coming up with a new one. So we did 10 different excersises 10 times each to equal 100. I learned a lot with this activity, I learned that I am very out of shape and my kids are not.

We always start our morning with devotions so today we read Psalm 100. It is such a beautiful Psalm!


And we checked the weather and were pleasantly surprised that there was a 100% chance of rain. I have NEVER seen that on weather bug before for our area.


We then did a science project to see if something would sink or float. The kids wanted to try out 100 things but that wasn't going to happen. So we really didn't incorporate the 100 into this experiment but the kids still enjoyed it. They each made a chart with their predictions and then saw if they were right. Jadon guessed right 100% of the time. He loves science!


They also counted out 100 cheerios, Pops, and noodles. Anna grouped hers in 5's, Camden did 10's and Jadon did too.



We are not sure how this happened but it does make for a funny picture.

The kids also did what they wanted with this 100 chart. Camden chose to count by 3's so he colored all the other squares leaving the 3's times tables. He has such a mind for math.

Jadon chose to be artistic and create this.

Anna was not interested in this project but did manage to color in the first 20 squares before she lost interest. And we still managed to get our math lesson, grammar, spelling, and reading in and after a busy morning of homeschool and Karate class, we went to DQ for some yummy ice cream to celebrate!

I've missed you blog

Here we are three weeks into January and I have only blogged once! That is so unlike me. I guess I have been busy around here and not wanting to spend much time on my computer. So what have we been up to you ask? Well, let's see. Last Saturday we met my parents at my Grandma's house (she will be 98 next month) and since she is now living in a group home we had to pack up her apartment. It was bitter sweet going through her things and picking out a few things to keep her memory alive at our home. It helps that she is doing well and has settled in nicely at her group home. So with that said, we enjoyed going through her things and allowing our kids, her great-grandkids to pick out some special things to bring home. Here is what they chose:

I would say that Camden was the most into it, he has the love language of receiving gifts so this was very special to him. Here he is unpacking his finds and organizing them.



Annagrace enjoyed herself too and found some special things to display in her room.

I love this lamp for her nightstand. I got a matching one and have it next to my bed. It makes for a perfect reading light.

And Jadon kept it simple. He took two things and created this: (I'm reallly not sure what he plans are with it, but he keeps reminding us that we may not remove it from his room.)

So that is how we spent our day on Saturday.

On Sunday morning we decided to head to the PF Changs half marathon to cheer on some friends who were running in the race. Even though we were not at church that morning we spent some time reading to our kids some passages that were fitting for this event:

1 Corinthians 9:23-27 (New International Version)
23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

And then we talked with them about encouraging others as found in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 and it was great practice for them to cheer on the runners.

We enjoyed a dinner out with my parents on Sunday night to the Olive Garden, just us adults. We had a great night and I ended up with these pictures. I actually ended up with a whole lot more. My mom gave me all the photo albums of us growing up and so we have had fun looking through those. Here I am at 6 years old and at 12 years old.


And then there is this silly goose. She made up a song the other night in the bathtub called "clean your armpits because it's your birthday." The funniest part is that she laughs so hard as she sings it and then she just giggles and giggles. So here she is singing her new song while washing her pits. Can't you just see the laughter!



And that brings us to tonight. It's RAINING! I am so excited because I love the rain. Especially since it hardly rains here in the desert so when it does it brings back wonderful memories of growing up in the northwest where it rained 9 months out of the year. At least when it rains here I know I will be seeing sun sometime in the next couple of days. It is always short lived. So here are two of my cuties playing in the rain. I walked outside and saw them playing so nicely together so I snuck these when they didn't even know it. But once they did realize I was taking pictures, Anna of course had to be silly and make some funny faces. That's my girl!

I finally picked up my camera after some time off of using it. I think I packed too many photo shoots into the month of December which caused me to take a nice long break, until now. I was happy to pick it up again and take some pictures of our most prized possessions, our kids of course. Well, at least two of them. Jadon doesn't appear in any of these. I'll have to catch him later.
The kids got their new Karate uniforms for Christmas and have enjoyed getting rid of their worn out white ones and using their brightly colored red and black ones. They also got their new weapon called the bow staff, at least I think that is what they are called, I just can't keep up with all the terms. When Anna was presented with hers her first question was if they would be learning how to change it into a snake just like they did in the Bible. I sure love this girl!


For this semester in homeschool the kids are on a journey through the entire Bible. They are learning how to navigate through their Bibles and get some highlights from each book. We cover three books per week so we should be done by the end of summer and hopefully they will have gained a firm foundation by then about all the wonderful things we can learn from God's Word, our mightiest of weapons! Here is the chart we are using to help us learn. Today we learned about Deuteronomy by reading the 10 commandements. Anna went to bed the night before and told me how excited she was to discover Deuteronomy in the morning. I love her enthusiasm, maybe it will rub off on her older brothers!

I snapped a few photos of Camden busy at work in homeschool. I am so proud of the hard work and effort he has put into homeschooling. He is gaining confidence despite his learning challenges and we are very proud of him. I sure love this boy, he brings so much JOY to our family.

First post of 2010

Hello 2010! Here we are, an old year behind us and new one ahead of us. I was holding off posting on here until I had something exciting to post about or at least had a picture to share but I actually have not picked up my camera since New Years Eve! So I don't have a whole lot to share at the moment. This week has been spent getting back in our groove of homeschooling. It's always hard coming off of break but two out of three kids did great, so that's not so bad. I am looking forward to the semester that is ahead of us, I have the semester all planned and we are going to be working hard but having fun at the same time. We also have a trip to Denver planned to spend time with the Keane's, everyone is really excited about that. And before we know it, the school year will be complete and summer will be here! We are looking forward to Family camp at Forrest Home this July with several other families that we are friends with. It should be a great time! But for now, we will continue to get back in our groove of homeschooling and see where the Lord leads us in 2010.
